Blockchain Food Origins Platform
Blockchain solution for food transparency. Scan QR codes to trace a product’s journey, enhancing trust and sustainability in food sourcing.
Project Brief
This project involved creating a blockchain-based platform to provide traceability and transparency for food products. Users can scan QR codes on food items in-store to learn about the product's origin, journey from farm to table, and authenticity. The system is built on Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric, incorporating NFTs for unique product identification and QR codes for easy consumer access. It aims to enhance consumer trust and product accountability by leveraging blockchain technology to track and display data on each food item's production and distribution process.
Project Overview
Value & Impact
The platform enhances product transparency, promotes consumer trust, and supports sustainable practices by tracking food origin. It mitigates risks related to fraud and misinformation in the supply chain, and empowers consumers with reliable, real-time information, increasing accountability among producers and retailers.
Key User Journey
Key Features
- QR Code Scanning for Product Info
- NFT-Based Product Authentication
- Supply Chain Milestone Tracking
- DAO-Driven Community Governance
- Consumer Trust Enhancement
Solution & Architecture
- Permissioned Blockchain: Hyperledger Fabric manages permissioned access for key stakeholders (e.g., farmers, distributors, retailers).
- NFT Minting and QR Integration: NFTs are generated for each product, ensuring uniqueness, and QR codes provide consumer-facing access.
- Smart Contract Layer: Developed on Hyperledger Fabric, enabling automated data entry for supply chain milestones.
- DAO and Policy Management: Hyperledger Fabric DAO manages governance and policies for stakeholders to maintain transparency.
- Data Storage and Access: Utilizes decentralized storage and permissioned access for secure data retrieval by consumers and partners.
Technology Architecture Overview
Technical Implementation
Implementation involved blockchain setup on Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric, with Solidity and Truffle for smart contracts. NFTs were created to uniquely identify products, with QR codes for public data access. Chaincode was developed on Hyperledger for event tracking. DAO governance and decentralized data storage were used for policy and data integrity.
